Fourth Conference shows continued growth in regional interest!

The leadership team for the Kansas City VMUG extends its warm thanks to everyone who made Tuesday’s event a big success: Sponsors, Speakers, Staff, Volunteers, and especially Attendees!

We saw huge rise in attendance, with over 800 checked-in attendees compared to 526 in 2011, once again breaking a record for our fourth outing. Non-sponsor attendees came to the event from all over the Midwest; in addition to local residents, attendees hail from California, Colorado, Georgia, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, South Dakota and Texas!

Chatting with Steve WozniakWhile it’s easy to ascribe the jump in attendance solely to the event-opening “Chat with Steve Wozniak,” it was evident from the continued traffic at sponsor booths in the expo hall and attendance at the educational breakout sessions later in the day that, while Mr. Wozniak’s session was a draw, the community of shared interest in the region is strong.

In line with that interest, 54 sponsoring organizations turned out in force on the cold morning, with an unmatched number of local partner organizations in that mix, underscoring the rich ecosystem of products and knowledgeable partners available to VMware customers.

Andre Leibovici discusses VMware’s EUC VisionOf course, the educational breakout sessions are the cornerstone of these events, and the myriad sessions presented ran the gamut from “Using social media to advance your career” to “Technical Deep Dive for vCenter” and “Automation and the API Landscape”.

The Gallery section of the site has pictures from both the event and the preceeding evening’s social event.

VMUG Welcomes Steve Wozniak

Apple Co-Founder Steve Wozniak to speak at VMUG User Conference in Kansas City on 11-Dec-2012

Steve Wozniak, aka Steve Woz, the man behind the design of Apple’s first line of products and co-founder of Apple Computer, will speak at the VMUG Kansas City User Conference on December 11 at the Overland Park Convention Center. Wozniak, a Silicon Valley icon and philanthropist helped shape the computing industry with his design of the Apple I and II, which eventually led to the popular Macintosh and spurred the microprocessor revolution. Wozniak, along with Steve Jobs, went on to found Apple in 1976.

Wozniak will open the Kansas City User Group Conference with an interactive discussion with the Kansas City VMUG volunteer leaders. Attendees will have the unique opportunity to hear from Wozniak on his experience working with Apple and more recently, with Fusion-io.

“We are thrilled to bring such an influential industry icon to the VMUG community at the Kansas City user group conference. Our members strive every day to solve problems and create new opportunities through technology. Steve Wozniak epitomizes the contribution that the computer programmer can make by building something that changed the face of the industry and even the world,” says Victor Bohnert, Executive Director of VMUG.
