Regional Meeting Agenda

As with all things, the agenda is subject to change, but we feel pretty good about what we’ve got planned for this year.

As always, the event is free, and anyone in the virtualization community—or curious about it—is invited.

Join the KC VMUG!

Yes, it’s true: the VMware User Groups have a premium, paid membership program called “VMUG Advantage” with a number of outstanding benefits, while basic membership is free. Many VMware users might not realize, however, that VMUG membership isn’t automatic: you aren’t a member simply by purchasing software (or downloading the free stuff!), you have to intentionally sign up to be a member.

What are the benefits? You become a member of the premier user group in Kansas City, and along with your fellow members, stay abreast of VMware-relevant events in the area.

In 2011, the KC VMUG itself will present three smaller, quarterly meetings, followed up by an all-day, regional-scale meeting—with nearly three dozen sponsors—in December. In addition to the regular meetings, KC VMUG members have received either exclusive or early-bird invitations for allied events being presented by VMware and partner organizations.

VMUG members are some of the most desired contacts in the virtualization community. You are typically the “in the trenches” folks who are dealing with VMware projects on a day-to-day basis. You’ve “been there” and “done that”, and you’ve done it small and you’ve done it big. And you’re happy to share your experiences with your fellow members.

Join the KC VMUG today!

Opening Keynote Speaker - Scott Lowe

The Kansas City VMware users group, and all of the Midwest Regional VMUG’s participating in this years Full Day Regional VMUG Conference are pleased to announce our Opening Keynote Speaker.

Scott Lowe will be presenting his insights into the best practices for critical datacenter infrastructure operations in VMware virtualized environments. Later in the day, he will be holding a workshop on the Top 10 Design Questions, where he will discuss the 10 most common design decisions in a VMware Environment.

Please join us on December 6th, 2010 at the Overland Park Convention Center for a full day of virtualization keynotes, breakout sessions, and hands on labs.

Bio from scottlowe.org:

I’ve been in the Information Technology field for more than 16 years, starting out with desktop support. Along the way, I worked as an instructor, a technical trainer and Microsoft Certified Trainer (MCT), systems administrator, IT manager, systems engineer, consultant, and Chief Technology Officer for a small start-up. Most recently, I was the technical lead for the virtualization practice at ePlus Technology, a national VAR/reseller. Currently, I work for EMC as a VMware-Cisco Solutions Principal, where I specialize in the intersection and integration of VMware, Cisco, and EMC solutions, products, and technologies.

In addition, I am a contributor to SearchVMware.com, a VMware-focused website with technical articles, how-to’s, tips, and news. I have had a few articles published on SearchServerVirtualization.com and I am a former columnist for Virtualization Review magazine.

I currently have two published books on the market. The first, Mastering VMware vSphere 4, was published by Wiley/Sybex around VMworld 2009; the second, VMware vSphere 4 Administration Instant Reference, was published by Wiley/Sybex in December 2009. Both books are available from Amazon.com and other major booksellers.
